Blog: Mental Conditioning

There is a secret that even when I share it with you will still beat you sometimes.  Although I too am susceptible to this villain, today I staged a comeback.  I hope to use my experience to teach you how you can rein victorious more often than not.

Who or what is this threat to your success?

You. More specifically your mind. That little voice in your head. That damn thing is always going no matter what you are doing. It is always moving. It never stops?even when you are sleeping.

Whether you know it or not you can control it and steer it so that you can achieve any goal or desire that you choose. And if you don’t take the steering wheel then it is going to take you somewhere you do not want to be – Fat, tired, out of shape, mentally and physically weak.

It is up to you.

You DECIDE where it goes.

If you are currently in a place where you don’t want to be then you simply let your mind drift aimlessly.  Remember you are in complete control.  No one or no thing controls you.

Here’s what happened this morning.

It’s Monday and my schedule is crazy this week.  I am sure many of you can relate.

So it’s 8 a.m., it was time for me to train?not a client but myself.  I only had 20 minutes to do it and contemplated putting it off until later in the day.  Then the battle began.

The first shot was fired and I knew it. My mind was focusing on everything else that I needed to do.  I quickly countered and thought how great I would feel to have my workout complete.

I DECIDED to at least show up at the park where I was training.  My workout included 20 continuous minutes of pull-ups, push-ups, sprints followed by a lap around the field. As I worked out my mind began to wander. My focus shifted on what I needed to get done later in the day and where I had to be.  I looked down at my watch and saw that I was 6 minutes and 23 seconds into my training session.  I began to think, “I should stop at 10 minutes. I have so many things to do.” Then “BAM!” I realized what I was letting happen.

I have physical goals. “What are they and why do I want it so bad? What will it give me?”, I asked myself.

Then I flipped the switch.

I flashed back to my physical goals.  I have a goal to hit 4.0% body fat by August 21st.

I visualized what I would look like and how it will feel once I achieve that goal! I saw it in vivid detail as if I were already there.  Then I asked, “What type of effort do I need to put forth to get there?”

BAM! Like a left hook from Mike Tyson.

My Brain was BACK! I tore through my workout and was one step closer to achieving my physical goal. I was in the ZONE for the rest of the day. The battle was won but I know that this enemy never rests.

Has this happened to you before?

If you are a human being then I guarantee it has.  I have received hundreds of e-mails from people who want to lose fat and train towards a goal but they believe they are plagued with a disease of laziness and a lack of inspiration.

Next time, you are faced with a “lack of motivation or just feeling lay-zeeeee” then DECIDE what you want and immediately act in the direction of your goals.

Do not put it off until later.

You must attack with vim and vigor.

This is one of the secrets to achieving physical greatness.

Begin today

Begin now.

Commit to fighting the body’s innate desire for comfort. Instinctively the body craves only to survive. In my opinion, to live only to survive is no way to live at all.

Use this lesson, to LIVE GREATLY? physically and mentally.

It is up to you.

You are the answer to your challenges.

Focus on what you want and Stay Strong!

P.S. Congratulations to my client and friend, Loorna Duluc. I fear telling you her age as the consequences may be great. I can tell you that she is less than fifty and has graduated from her thirties. Her strong mind and consistent action allowed her to finally escape from 138 pounds and achieve her goal of 119 pounds and wear a size 4!  Congratulations Loorna!

You Rock!
