Every year the NCAA awards the Nation’s best college football player with the prestigious Heisman Trophy. This year’s winner was University of Southern California running back, Reggie Bush. Not only was Bush the winner, he dominated by capturing a remarkable 85% of all first-place votes. With thousands of players in the NCAA, Reggie Bush is special. What makes him special?
I wanted to know and I quickly discovered one of his keys to success.
In an interview with ESPN’s Chris Fowler, this year’s Heisman trophy winner revealed a little known secret to success that you can use to achieve not only your physical goals but anything that you desire.
Chris Fowler:
“People have always said since you were young, scoring five touchdowns a game that you were going to win the Heisman Trophy. How many times have you envisioned clutching this thing (patting the trophy)?”
Reggie Bush:
“ALL THE TIME.
I have always envisioned winning the Heisman Trophy
and it has come true. My mom always told me,
“If you envision it first it will come true.”
That’s it. Right there. Did you see it?
“If you envision it first it will come true.”
Those words of wisdom are one of the keys to achieving anything. When I work with a client, this is always the first step. Earlier in my training career, I possessed the knowledge to get people in tremendous shape; however, it only happened occasionally. It frustrated me so I made a study of the psychology of human motivation and the science of goal achievement. After reading nearly a hundred books, attending dozens of seminars and interviewing scores of successful athletes, entrepreneurs and leaders, something clicked. I realized that there is no one thing but a series of things. There is a sequence of events in which the mind changes just as the body does. In other words, where the mind goes the body will follow. In order to go from pitiful shape to good shape or good to great, then you must first see it in your mind. You must imagine what you want in vivid detail. This vision of your future self becomes the force that drives you toward your goal. On days when you are tired or all Hell breaks loose, rather than going home and curling into a ball in the corner and sucking your thumb, that Bright Picture of the FUTURE propels you forward like powerful steam engine.
You don’t miss workouts.
You opt to eat high octane meals.
You don’t make excuses.
You conquer life.
With the New Year comes a flock of people who want to finally do it. They want to lose weight, build muscle, get ripped, get faster?hell?they want it all. Yet almost 97% quit by February 1st.
How do you overcome the odds?
Grab a pen and paper.
Go somewhere where you will not be interrupted and relax.
Tell yourself. “The only limitations that I have are those that I place upon myself.”
Then ask, “What do I want to look like and feel like?”
See it, feel it, touch it and taste it.
If you do this every day, you will be well on your way to the top of your game.
Get focused and stay STRONG,

P.S.S. I leave you with a quote from the great Arnold Schwarzenegger:
“What I am most happy about is that I can zero in on a vision of where I want to be in the future. I can see it so clearly in front of me when I daydream, that it’s almost a reality. Then I get this easy feeling, and I don’t have to be uptight to get there because I already feel like I’m there, that it’s just a matter of time.”
